This federally-funded project is to replace an existing bridge located in a residential neighborhood. It experiences frequent overtopping, and is in a FEMA Zone AE with a regulatory floodway. The proposed structure increases the level of service without impacting floodplain/floodway elevations. HHR provided hydrologic analysis and hydraulic modeling, drainage study and report, and a “No Rise” certification. The resulting design included a multi-cell, bottomless arch concrete structure (such as by ConSpan). We coordinated this effort with the local floodplain administrator, FEMA, and ALDOT.
